Saturday, 24 January 2026, an awareness meeting on Child Marriage, along with the celebration of National Girl Child Day, was organised at the Narayan Chandra Dutta Conference Hall. The programme was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Golaghat, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Women’s Cell of Furkating College (Autonomous), and Koshi Lok Mancha (NGO).
The programme was presided over by Dr. Ajanta Rajkhowa, Academic Vice-Principal of the college and Head, Department of Assamese, who chaired the meeting.
The distinguished resource persons present at the programme included Ms. Kakoli Baruah, Advocate, District Legal Services Authority; Ms. Pranami Dutta Saikia, official of the District Child Protection Unit, Golaghat; Ms. Urboshi Kakoti, official of the District Legal Services Authority; and representatives of Koshi Lok Mancha (NGO)—Ms. Anjuma Begum, Mr. Raktim Pratim Duara, Consultant, and Mr. Suraj Saikia, Assistant Victim Consultant.
At the beginning of the programme, Ms. Lakshya Shruti Das, Secretary of the Women’s Cell and Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, conducted the seat allotment and felicitation of the dignitaries.
While addressing the gathering, Ms. Kakoli Baruah highlighted the various government schemes and legal provisions for the welfare of the girl child, and explained the laws related to the prevention of child marriage. Ms. Pranami Dutta Saikia and Ms. Urboshi Kakoti urged everyone to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring women’s safety.
On behalf of Koshi Lok Mancha (NGO), Ms. Anjuma Begum administered a pledge to all the students and participants, reaffirming their commitment to the protection of the girl child and the elimination of child marriage.
Thereafter, Dr. Ajanta Rajkhowa delivered the Chairperson’s remarks, calling upon everyone to remain alert and united in safeguarding the rights of the girl child and in making society free from child marriage.
At the end of the programme, the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Apurba Ranjan Dutta, Associate Professor, Department of Education. The Chairperson then formally declared the conclusion of the awareness programme.
