About Indian Red Cross Society

Indian Red Cross society is a voluntary humanitarian organization to protect human life and health in time of disasters and emergencies to vulnerable people/community. The mission of Indian Red Cross Society is to inspire, encourage an initiate all forms of humanitarian activities to provide relief and prevent human suffering thereby creating a congenial climate for peace. The Indian Red Cross society was established in 1920 under the Indian Red Cross society incorporated under Parliament Act XV of 1920. The Act was last amended in 1992 and rules were formed in 1994 with its headquarters located at New Delhi. In Furkating College, the Youth Red Cross unit was launched in 2020 under the guidance of Indian Red Cross society Assam State branch.

Aims of Youth Red Cross society

  • To enlighten their knowledge on first aids and rescue steps in times of emergency.
  • To organised blood donation camp.
  • To conduct awareness programmes on HIV/AIDS and other diseases for the improvement and maintenance of their health.
  • To encourage students to give service to the sick and suffering.
  • To develop mental health and hygiene, moral ethics and values of the youth.

Objectives of Youth Red Cross society

  • To encourage community service.
  • To make the youth understand about the civic responsibilities.
  • To develop the sense of dedication and devotions to humanitarian service to the society.
  • To conduct health awareness programmes.
  • To offer first aids training to the Youth Red Cross volunteers.

Red Cross emblem

The emblem is recognised in 1864 as a distinctive sign for medical relief teams on the battlefield.

Activities undertaken by Youth Red Cross Society

  • Inauguration of Youth Red cross Unit and Orientation of volunteers.
  • Blood donation camp
  • Creating awareness for the improvement of human health, hygiene and sanitisation.
  • Provide relief to people in times of disasters and emergency.
  • Encourage social service, family welfare and unity.
  • Organise HIV/AIDs programmes, preventions of communicable and infection diseases etc.
