NSS

The National Service Scheme is an Indian Government Sponsored public service programme conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affaires and Sports of the Government of India. NSS was formally launched on 24th September 1969, the birth Centenary year of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Therefore, 24th September is celebrated as the Foundation Day of NSS with appropriate progammes & activity.

Aims of NSS:

Development of personality, leadership and confident of students through community service. The programme aims to instill the idea of social welfare in students and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity.

Objectives of NSS:

  1. Understand the community in which they work.
  2. Understand themselves in relation to their community.
  3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
  4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  5. Utilize their knowledge in funding practical solution to individual and community problems.
  6. Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.
  7. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
  9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
  10. Practice national integration and social harmony.

The motto of the National Service Scheme is “Not Me But You”.

Based on the ‘Rath’ wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa.

Voluntary Blood Donation Camp ( 10th May, 2022)

A voluntary blood donation camp was organized jointly by Youth Red Cross Unit, Red Ribbon Club and Alumni Association of the college in collaboration with blood bank, SKK Civil Hospital, Golaghat, on 10th May, 2022. Wherein students, staff and alumni participated voluntarily in the camp. The camp was inaugurated by Mr. Simanta Poddar, Vice Principal, Furkating College. Dr. Rupak Bora, incharge of blood bank, SKK civi hospital, golaghat, with the support from his medical team made the camp a grand success. Before the camp starts, Dr. Bora made the students aware about the importance of blood donation and its benefits. Mrs. Biju Bora, Counsellor, ensures that donating blood means saving one’s life and it is the noblest step in the service of humanity. A total of 26 units blood were collected during the camp. Besides, checkups of hemoglobin were also done by the team of medical personnel. The cooperation and support from the participants made the camp successful. Certificates of appreciation were also provided to the donors as a token of love and care towards humanity. With such contribution, we will be able to save one’s life.

No Plastic Day (03/07/2021)

Today the 3rd July 2021, a combined awareness drive of NCC, NSS and Nature Club of Furkating College was carried out in Furkating and Golaghat town on the occasion of No Plastic Day to create awareness about the hazard of plastic bags.The awareness drive was carried out under the guidance of Captain Indira Gogoi,NCC ANO, Dr. Swarna Prava Nath, NSS Programme Officer and Mr. Apurba Ranjan Dutta,Co ordinator of Nature Club. Dr. Rousanara Begum, Co ordinator of values and best practices also accompanied in the programme. A total of 18 volunteers have joined in the awareness drive by following the Covid protocol.Biodegradable bags and newspaper were distributed in some shops of both the towns. People were told how the use of plastic bags has polluted the environment. Besides the distribution of biodegradable bags and newspapers, Glow sign boards bearing slogan SAY NO TO PLASTIC were also installed in the College premises. The programme was a great success with people showing interest in the awareness drive.

World-Blood-Donor-Day

World Blood Donor Day (14/06/2021)

To mark the event of World Blood Donor Day, Youth Red Cross Unit, Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit of Furkating College has successfully organized Online Poster Making Competition on 14th June, 2021. The competition was open for H.S and Under Graduate level students only. A total of 31 students from various institutes of the state have participated in the said programme and gave their best effort making the event a huge success. The response of the participants was really overwhelmed. The aim of the event was to raise awareness among students the need for safe blood donation, because young people’s involvement and support will help to ensure greater impact for the society. Blood donation is a great act of kindness and people should donate more to save lives.

World Environment Day (05.06.2021)

Today, the 5th of June, 2021, Furkating College has taken an initiative to observed World Environment Day by planting sapling of various plants in the College campus. Nss volunteers, nature club unit and NCC troops along with the principal Dr. Apurba Saikia, vice principal Mr. Simanta Poddar and the respective coordinators of NSS unit, Nature club and NCC unit of the College took the lead to mark the auspicious occasion. The faculty members and students union of the college also participated in the plantation drive. It was a day to spread awareness about the issues people are facing today and to preserve it by sustaining and restoring the ecological balance.

International Women’s Day Report (8th March, 2021)

International Women’s Day is celebrated everyone on the 8th of March, throughout the whole world. This particular day is celebrated to accept the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of every walk of women life. Women from all over the world celebrated this day to give awareness about women strength and the role in bringing changes in the society.
Furkating College has celebrated International Women’s Day in the College Auditorium hall on the theme “Women in leadership achieving on equal future in a Covid-19 world” jointly organized by Women’s cell, NCC and NSS units of the College. Mrs. Anmona Bora, Rtd. Associate Professor, Department of English, J.B College, Jorhat was invited as a guest lecture. The programme starts with an inaugural session by the principal of the College, Dr. Apurba Saikia. Mrs. Bora beautifully gives lecture on women empowerment and achievement in different field of social, political, cultural and economic sector. Women Committee representative from local area of Furkating was also present in the programme. After the lecture session, there was an interaction session with the students and faculties and everyone present in the hall. Faculties and students also express their view on women and their rights. At the end of the programme, senior girl’s wing of NCC presented “Nukkad Natak” a street play showing the roles of women during Covid-19 lockdown.

Blood Donation Camp (23.02.2021)

A voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized in the College Campus jointly by NSS Unit, Red Ribbon Club and Youth Red Cross Unit of Furkating College in collaboration with Blood Bank, S.K.K Hospital, Golaghat on 23.02.2021. All preparation regarding arrangement of hall, beds, refreshment, etc. were made by the coordinator of the respective unit of NSS, Red Ribbon Club and Youth Red Cross Society of the college. Before starting the camp a short meeting was held in the auditorium hall regarding the importance of Blood donation.
The meeting starts with an inaugural session by the Principal of the College, Dr. Apurba Saikia. A team of doctor, counselor, nurse and lab technician came for collection of blood. A total of more than 60 students were present in the meeting. Dr. Rupak Bora has given lecture on the importance of blood donation and its benefits. He says that donating blood means saving one’s life and it is the noblest step in the service of humanity. The camp was open for all the neighboring people. Altogether 15 donors were donating blood in the camp including the teachers, office staff and students. Alumni of the college also came to donate in the camp. Donors were given refreshment. A blood camp was over at around 1:30 in the afternoon with a great success. A certificate was given to each donor as a token of gratitude. And appreciation certificate was also given to the college for their selfless work and contribution.

National Road Safety month (18th January to 17th February 2021)

As a part of the National Road Safety month being observed across the state, the NSS unit of Furkating College has also observed along with the students from 18th January to 17th February 2021. All together 15 students have participated in the said program.
The College observed the safety measures through poster and distributing leaflet in the locality of Furkating area, Golaghat District. The coordinator of NSS unit and student make effort to conduct awareness on road safety measures and actively participated by giving awareness to the people about some safety measures to be followed while driving and also one should not stick to mobile phone while driving. Road safety is a must and proper attention by each and every person will save a precious human lives. The NSS unit tried to convey the message of obeying traffic rules, wearing helmet, using the right side, avoid using mobile phone so as to ensure safety measures while driving. The students also tried to make the people understand about the dos and don’ts of good road behaviors so that it will reduce the risks of accidents. Therefore, there is an urgent need to take effective measures on road safety and to improve measures so as to save precious lives because accident brings immense economic breakdown and emotional trauma to the family and the people.

International Women’s Day (8th March, 2020)

A meeting is organized on 8th March, 2020, by NSS, IVBP and Women Cell on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Ms. Anjana Goswami, presedient Women Cell, Furkating College, presided over the meeting. After the felicitation programme Dr. Apurba Saikia, Principal, Furkating College conveyed the welcome speech. Dr. Dipanjali Goswami, Associate Professor, Dept. of Education, Chandra Kamal Bezboruah College, Teok, was the resource person. Dr. Goswami, in her speech, very effectively touches almost all the aspects of women’s life. After her speech, ladies from the audience also expressed their views and feelings regarding Women’s Day.
More than sixty people including student and teaching staff attended the meeting which was conducted at No.2 Furkating L.P. School.

Celebrated 70th Constitutional Day (26th November, 2019)

In response of the order of DHE, Assam, Furkating College celebrated 70th Constitutional Day in 26th November, 2019. The Programme Officer of the NSS, Dr.Swarna Prava Nath took the initiative for organizing the programme. The NSS unit organized a lecture for the students to make them aware about the constitution of India. Around 50 students along with most of the faculties of the college participated in the discussion in which they showcased their ideas about the relevance of constitution. Mr. Jatin Mech, Assistant Professor, of the dept. of Political Science, told the students that till independence, princely states in India, had their own separate rules, laws and regulations, which needed to be brought under the nation’s political rules laws and procedures. Our country needed such a constitution in which basic rights and duties of the people have been prescribed so that our country can progress rapidly and achieved new height.

Misuse of Mobile Phone & the Menaces of Drug Abuse ( 20th September, 2019)

On 20th September, 2019, NSS wing, Furkating College organized an Awareness Programme on “Misuse of Mobile Phone & the Menaces of Drug Abuse” in collaboration with Athgaon Chariali Sports Association & Library. Mr. Surajeet Singh Paneswar, Addl. Superintendent of Police, Mr. Partha Pratim Saikia, Dy.SP (HQ), Golaghat and Dr. Banti Rani Gogoi Phukan, Rtd. Principal, H.P.B. Girl’s College, Golaghat were the resource persons of this programme. The resource persons delivered their lecture on “Misuse of Mobile Phone and danger of Drugs Addiction”. In their speech the resource persons clearly defined about the causes of delinquency, inferiority complex, negative minded, wastage and stagnation and the duties & responsibilities of parents, teachers and societies to solve such type of problems. The lecture was attended by the Principal, faculties, local people as well as a large number of students (150 no) of the college. The speech was followed by a meaningful interaction with the students and the resource persons.

Summer Internship Programme (10th June to 31st July,2019)

In accordance with the vision of Swach Bharat Abhiyan, NSS unit of Furkating College has launch some activities such as, Hanging Banner, Street and railway station cleaning, awareness meeting on sanitation, drinking water etc. in the nearest village (2no. Tirual Gaon). Dr. Apurba Saikia, Principal, Furkating College inaugurate the programme by cleaning the college campus. The NSS officers, faculty members and NSS volunteers of the college participated in the programme.
The programme starts at 10.30 am by cleaning the college campus, railway station and several places of 2no. Tirual gaon about 1 km. away from the college. After cleaning programme door to door awareness programme has started to create awareness about cleanliness, drinking water, sanitation and various diseases that are caused due to poor hygienic condition. A small discussion was held that emphasized upon the importance of cleanliness and sanitation as well as its important in their daily lives. At the end Banner Hanging is done on “Swacha Bharat Abhiyan” at Furkating Railway Station and at different important place of the Furkating area. The programme continues from 10th June to 31st July,2019.

International Yoga Day ( On 21st June, 2019,)


On 21st June, 2019, NSS wings and NCC Group of Furkating College has jointly organized “International Yoga Day” in the college. More than 150 students and 15 faculties have joined in the Yoga practice. Mr. Gama Hazarika, Mrs. Purabi Nath and Mrs. Pallabi Chutia Boruah, Patanjalli Yoga Practionner were the resource person of this programme. In the opening session Mr. Simanta Poddar, Vice principal, Furkating College has delivered welcome address. After his lecture, Mr. Gama Hazarika the resource person, explain about the significance of International Yoga Day and needs and importance of Yoga in our physical and mental development. Then they have practiced yoga along with the students which is necessary for our day-to-day activities. The programme starts from 7.30 am to 9am.

Blood Donation Camp (27.03.2019)

A “Blood Donation and Blood Grouping Camp” jointly organized by NSS wing and Red Ribbon Club Furkating College in collaboration with Blood Bank, Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital, Golaghat on 27.03.2019. The programme was inaugurated by Dr.Apurba Saikia, Principal, Furkating College. Dr.Rupak Bora, Jikham Seng Shyam Bordoloi, along with other medical staff of Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital, Golaghat participated in the programme. The resource person Dr. Rupak Bora delivered his lecture on the benefits and necessity of blood donation. One faculty member and 16th students and alumni have donated their blood on that day.

Health Awareness Programme (13th March, 2019)

On 13th March, 2019, NSS wing, Furkating College jointly organized a Health Awareness Programme with Red Ribbon Club of Furkating College. Mrs. Bulti Saikia, Psychologist, District Mental Health Care Unit, Golaghat, was the resource person of this programme. The resource person delivered a lecture on “Targeted Interventions at College”. In her speech the resource person clearly defined about the causes of delinquency, inferiority complex, negative minded, wastage and stagnation and ways and remedies to overcome them. The lecture was attended by the Principal, faculties, employees as well as a large number of students (100 no) of the college. The speech was followed by a meaningful interaction with the students and the resource person.

World AIDS Day (1st December, 2018)

“World Aids Day” was observed in our college on 1st December, 2018 by NSS wing of Furkating College. A lecture competition was organized among the students on the topic“ AIDS is a Dangerous Diseases”
More than 50 students and 10 faculties were attending this meeting and 17 students joined this competition. 3 students were selected among them on the basis of quality lecture. Three of our colleagues were judged this competition.

Essay Competition on “Cleanliness and Civilization”:
On 27th September, 2018 NSS wing, Furkating College organized an essay competition among the students on “Cleanliness and Civilization” in collaboration with “SWSHATAI SEWA-2018” of SWASHABHARAT ABHIJAN. 15 students of our college were joined this competition and 3 faculties of our college were judged this competition.

NSS Foundation Day (24th September 2018)

NSS foundation day was observed by NSS wing Furkating College on 24th September 2018. The foundation day programme was opened by a cleanliness programme in college campus by the NSS volunteers at 9 am. This programme was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Apurba Saikia. After this cleanliness programme a meeting was organized. The resource person was Dr. Dinesh Gogoi, Rtd. Professor D.R.College, Golaghat delivered a lecture on duties and responsibilities of NSS. More than 100 students/volunteers and 12 faculties were actively attend this meeting. An interaction session also held among the participant and resource person.
