Furkating College was established on 6th August 1981 representing the mass populated area of the Assam-Nagaland Border of Golaghat district, Assam. The people of Furkating and its adjoining area with great enthusiasm and cooperation resolved to establish an institution of Higher Education at Furkating town, the heart of a large area of 25 sq. miles. The College started functioning under the leadership of the Governing Body’s founder President Late Mohen Baruah, founder Secretary Mr. Dugdha Dutta and founder Principal Late Firdus Ali Ahmed.
The College was started at Furkating High School from 22/06/1981 and later it was shifted to its own building in an area of about 9 Acres of land at the Tirual Grazing ground which was generously donated by the local people. The College is affiliated to the Dibrugarh University w.e.f. 28/07/1993.
After fourteen years of persistent effort and sacrifice of a group of well-wishers and dedicated teachers, the College obtained deficit grant-in-aid status in 1996 w.e.f. 11/01/1996 during the tenure of Governing Body President Late Nagen Neog, the cabinet minister of the Government of Assam. The College was brought under provincialized system in 2005 as per provision of Assam College Employees Provincialisation Act 2005.
Presently, with the guidance of the present Principal, a group of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers, energetic ministerial staff, the College has been educating a number of pupils upto B.A. degree level and guiding the society with a clear vision. The College is determined to become a pioneer institution of higher education in the state of Assam.
A group of renowned educationists from outside the state as members of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) assessed the College in September 2003 and awarded C++ Grade. Again, another group of educationists from different parts of India re-assessed the College in October 2010 with B Grade (point 2.63) & B++ Grade (2.76 point) in 2016. This is an inspiration for the College fraternity to go ahead in its quest for quality, perfection and meaningful education.
