Saturday, 24 January 2026, an awareness meeting on Child Marriage, along with the celebration of National Girl Child Day, was organised at the Narayan Chandra Dutta Conference Hall. The programme was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Golaghat, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Women’s Cell of Furkating College (Autonomous), and Koshi Lok Mancha (NGO)

An awareness programme on ‘’Drug Abuse and Child Marriage’’ was jointly organised by the Mental Health Club of Furkating College, (Autonomous), and Golaghat Thana Level Nagarik Committee, in collaboration with the Anti-Drug Awareness and Prevention Activities (under NMBA), on 22-01-2026 The meeting on Anti-Drug Abuse and Child Marriage was held at the Bishnu-Jyoti Auditorium of the institution. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Shri Paresh Dutta, President of the Golaghat Thana Level Nagarik Committee. The welcome address was delivered by the Principal of Furkating College, Dr. Apurba Saikia. The programme was attended by several distinguished guests, including Medical Officer Dr. Diganta Das, Additional Superintendent of Police Sri Jan Das, Circle Officer Smt. Belivia Choudhury, Officer-in-Charge of Golaghat Police Station Sri Mintu Saikia , the President of Furkating Gaon Panchayat Mr Ashok Kumar Saikia and many other eminent persons. While speaking on the subject. Circle Officer Belivia Choudhury particularly highlighted the bad impact of child marriage on society. The Officer-in-Charge, Mintu Saikia. expressed deep concern over the fact that Furkating area is gradually turning into a hub of drug abuse. He emphasised that active cooperation from the local community along with the police administration is essential to address this issue. He also stressed the importance of parental awareness in preventing child marriage, especially in the case of girl children. The Additional Superintendent of Police, Jan Das, also expressed serious concern over the harmful effects of drug abuse, AIDS, and child marriage among the youth. He urged the students to stay away from these negative influences and to prepare themselves for constructive roles in administrative and social fields. On the occasion of the awareness programme, prizes were distributed to the winners of the Poster Making Competition held on 21-01-2026 among the students of the college. Panchorika Bora secured first position, Rimpy Nath second position, Amlan Jyoti Changmai third position, and Sarang Jyoti Dutta received the consolation prize. The meeting was anchored by Apurba Ranjan Dutta, Nodal Person of the Anti-Drug Committee and Associate Professor of the Department of Education, Furkating College. The vote of thanks was delivered by Officer-in-Charge Sri Mintu Saikia. More than two hundred students, along with the President and members of Furkating Gaon Panchayat, members of the Golaghat Thana Level Nagarik Committee, and the teaching and non-teaching staff of Furkating College, participated in the programme.
